This is a new provision that we manage for South Tyneside. The provision is for 10 young people who have predominantly been excluded from mainstream education within KS4. This provision offered to each young person is specifically individualised to meet their needs, the offer includes:

The Pathways programme is based away from the main body of the school at The Hut at Chuter Ede education centre. It is a small but unique space which comprises of some very good facilities inside as you can see from the photos across.

Park View Pathways Curriculum

The Park View School Pathways Project offers a bespoke curriculum to its students. It is designed to provide a selection of qualifications that will give participating students a pathway into post 16 education, training or employment. Core subjects are covered with students given the opportunity to gain accreditation in literacy and numeracy Functional Skills levels 1 and 2. Also on offer to Pathways students is the BTEC Sports and Leisure course as well as weekly outdoor pursuits which are offered in conjunction with Simonside Outdoor Adventure Centre.


Functional Skills

The students on the Pathways Programme have access to Functional Skills, these are practical skills in English, Maths and ICT for all learners aged 14 and above. Functional Skills provide an individual with essential knowledge, skills and understanding that will enable them to operate confidently, effectively and independently in life and work. BTEC Sport and active Leisure

BTEC Sport and Leisure aims at combining practical activity with classroom work, this is for those interested in sport, fitness or outdoor activities and who may want to pursue a career in the sport and active leisure industry.

This qualification will give you an ideal introduction to the sports industry, how the human body works and how to stay fit and healthy as well as developing essential skills required for employment or progression into further qualifications and training.

The students’ must complete 4 units to gain the qualification and must have photographic evidence of them completing skills etc. to support their coursework; you can see examples of the 4 units and also of student’s evidence from the photos below:

Simonside Outdoor Adventure

Park View School have formed a partnership with Simonside outdoor activity centre and the Pathways team access their facilities twice a week for enrichment, outdoor activities and accreditation courses. Simonside deliver high quality activities with good kit, excellent facilities and their staff members are fantastic to work alongside. The Pathway students have made a cracking start with the Simonside Activity Centre this year and have completed lots of outdoor activities such as water sports, mountain biking, rock climbing and there is scope to move onto things like archery and orienteering activities in the coming weeks. During the cold winter months our students will be focussing on accreditation courses such as First Aid, Duke of Edinburgh, Life support and Health and safety. The Simonside centre are South Tyneside Council’s adventurous activity provider and have been delivering activities to young and old alike for over 30 years, they have something for everyone that will inspire, educate and leave lasting memories. Multi Agency

Some of the students who access the Pathways programme have other agencies and staff working with them, at Park View School we try to work in conjunction with these services to help provide the best levels of support and meet the needs of both the students and their families.
